Villa del Mar stands in Pelican Key, the premier residential hill on the Dutch side, and from its terrace you can count the islands: St. Barts, Nevis, St. Kitts, Statia and Saba. Unlike most of Sint Maarten it has lawns and real gardens, a mango tree, bananas and flamboyants in flower, inside a gated wall that gives the pool complete privacy. Four bedrooms and three bathrooms, finished in travertine and furnished by Tommy Bahama; two of the bedrooms are en suite with sea views, and the master has a steam shower for two, a jacuzzi for two and its own balcony. The living room rises to a cedar cathedral ceiling over bamboo floors, with a Sony screen, Onkyo surround sound and glass doors that open the whole room to the sea. The kitchen has a six-burner gas range and everything down to the air fryer; outside are the dining table, loungers and umbrellas, a gazebo, the bar, a pool table under cover and the grill. There is a gym, a washer and dryer, a crib and a high chair, Starlink, a generator for the island’s brownouts, and babysitting on request. Simpson Bay’s beaches and restaurants are minutes down the hill.
